Permanent-magnet overhead conveyors are used for the automatic removal of ferrous foreign particles from all types of bulk materials above the conveyor belts carrying the material. The ferrous particles lifted from the conveyor belt by the magnet are carried away by a circulating belt and discharged. They can be used either as cross-belt separators, in which case the ferrous particles are discharged to the side of the belt, or as belt-discharge separators, in which the ferrous particles are discharged in the direction of conveyance.
